 Coast Guard Beach, Cape Cod
Coast Guard Beach, one of Cape Cod’s most popular beach destinations was named one of the top ten beaches in the country in 2009 by “Dr. Beach,” Stephen P. Leatherman. Included in Leatherman’s top ten are several beaches throughout Hawaii, Florida, California, and the Carolinas. While Cape Cod lacks the year round picture perfect climate of other destinations on the list, Coast Guard Beach compensates with pristine facilities, easy parking, and most importantly, waves worthy of two surfing website web cams honed in on it at all times.
Located just 25 minutes from the Captains House Inn, Coast Guard Beach is a favorite day trip for guests. But for those who prefer a shorter drive or calmer waters, Chatham offers 70 miles of shoreline dotted with its own award-worthy beaches. Chatham Light Beach, just 1.5 miles from the Captains House is a favorite for sun worshippers and Hardings Beach, just ten minutes from the inn offers breathtaking sunsets. For those who prefer strolling along the shore to lounging, Monomoy Wildlife Sanctuary, a five minute drive from the Captains House offers a long stretch of sandy shoreline complete with dozens of horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, and other sea creatures to observe.
Whichever beach guests choose to spend their leisurely getaway perusing, Cape Cod’s myriad of options awaits and never fails to impress travelers and locals alike.
March tends to be a quiet month on Cape Cod. And understandably so – even the hardiest New Englanders find the snow to be just another shoveling expedition versus a beautiful white wonderland. Still, for those who can’t escape for a week in the Caribbean, the Cape does provide a retreat for those who need a quick getaway, if even to escape the cabin fever of their own home. The Captains House Inn has extended their winter mid-week special for the entire month of March to include weekends as long as one night of your stay includes a week night (Sunday-Thursday). A two night minimum stay is required to receive this rate. So, ditch your cell phone and lap top and grab a bottle of wine and a good book and revitalize at the Captains House Inn before you embark on your spring cleaning this year.

Located in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, Chatham is a beautiful town that is perfect for a summer vacation. Chatham is home to the Chatham Lighthouse, which was established in 1808 by Thomas Jefferson to protect the ships circling the Cape. Main Street Chatham has a provincial feel with its numerous family owned and operated shops and restaurants, including the Captain’s House Inn – great for a gourmet breakfast before you start your busy day.
Chatham is also home to the Cape’s second oldest theatre, Monomoy Theatre. Open for fifty-one years, the theatre offers a summer theatre program for college students. Each summer the students perform eight plays with the mentoring help of seasoned visiting artists, actors and directors.
With 260 seats, anywhere you sit offers a great view. Tickets are $17-$22.
This summer, the Monomoy Theatre box office opens on June 16th. This year the students are performing Guys and Dolls, Scapino, The Matchmaker, Doubt, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, The Front Page, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds, and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
